lokalnews.de war vor einiger Zeit der Buhmann in der (Hyper)Lokalblog-Szene und wurde von einigen als Tarnkappenbomber gegen die freie Presse betittelt. Der Grund war ganz einfach: Die in Passau ansässige lokalnews GmbH ist eine Mehrheitsbeteiligung des Wochenblatt Verlages aus Landshut. An dem wiederum ist die Verlegerfamilie Diekmann, der Passauer Monopolist Verlagsgruppe Passau, beteiligt. Eine journalistische Unabhängigkeit ist da für einige von vornherein ausgeschlossen. Unabhängig von Verquickungen und Verschwörungen ist lokalnews aber eines der am weitest entwickelten deutschen Lokalblogs, von dem man einiges lernen kann. Dazu werde ich in den nächsten Tagen einen gesonderten Artikel schreiben.
Ich habe dem 28-jährigen Gründer, Daniel Wildfeuer, einige Fragen zu lokalnews gestellt. Inzwischen sind in der Redaktion zwei Festangestellte Redakteurinnen und eine studentische Aushilfskraft angestellt. Daniel Wildfeuer hat vor lokalnews mit einem Partner www.bsmparty.de aufgebaut. Mit rund 110.000 registrierten Mitgliedern eine der größten Online-Communities in Süd-Ost-Bayern. Er kommt also nicht aus dem Journalismus, sondern ist ein ganz klassischer Onliner.
Hi Daniel, lokalnews.de gibt es inzwischen seit fast drei Monaten. Dass es sich bei lokalnews um ein (relativ gut getarntes) Tochterunternehmen der Verlagsgruppe Passau handelt, ist inzwischen bekannt. Kannst Du kurz erklären, um was für eine Art von Beteiligung/ Kooperation es sich dabei handelt?
Vorab möchte ich klarstellen, dass wir kein Tochterunternehmen der Verlagsgruppe Passau sind. An lokalnews.de ist der Wochenblatt Verlag aus Landshut beteiligt, neben der Verlagsgruppe Passau ist die Verlegerfamilie Diekmann auch am Wochenblatt Verlag beteiligt. Das ist die einzige Verbindung zwischen uns und der Verlagsgruppe.Wie kam es zu der Beteiligung. War das von Start weg so geplant?
Nein, im Zuge der Planungen für das Projekt wurde die Notwendigkeit einer Anschubfinanzierung immer deutlicher. Mein Ziel war ein umfangreiches lokales Nachrichtenangebot zu schaffen und da ich selbst redaktionell keine Erfahrungen habe, musste man mit hohen Personalkosten kalkulieren. Ich habe daraufhin Gespräche mit verschiedenen Verlagen geführt und bin schlußendlich beim Wochenblatt Verlag in Landshut gelandet. Diese fanden die Idee sehr spannend und konnten mir die inhaltliche Unabhängigkeit vertraglich zusichern.
Die Brisanz dieser Beteiligung habe ich selbst jedoch total unterschätzt. Für mich war wichtig die Finanzierung gesichert zu haben und endlich nach monatelangen Planungen loslegen zu können. Es war nicht meine Absicht jemanden bewusst zu täuschen. Ich möchte mit einem eigenen Produkt überzeugen und nicht ständig als Tochter/Produkt/Ableger eines Verlages angesehen werden. Daher ist die Beteiligung zwar öffentlich im Handelsregister einsehbar, aber ich nagle mir jetzt kein Schild auf die Stirn, dass der Wochenblatt Verlag an lokalnews.de beteiligt ist.
Die Reaktionen unserer Leser zeigen, dass Ihnen die finanziellen Hintergründe schlichtweg egal sind, sie wollen guten Lokaljournalismus lesen und diesen wollen wir bieten.Jetzt haben wir das mit der Beteiligung und den Hintergründen also geklärt. Trotzdem drängt sich eine Frage förmlich auf: Kannst Du wirklich unabhängig berichten – ohne dass Dir jemand “von denen” reinredet?
Wir agieren komplett eigenständig. Wir haben ein eigenes Büro, eigene Mitarbeiter, nutzen eigene Informationspool und tauschen auch keine Inhalte aus.
Wir können zu 100% unabhängig berichten. Ein aktuelles Beispiel: Bei der pnp.druck GmbH (die Drucktochter der Verlagsgruppe Passau) wurde letzte Woche gestreikt. Die Verlagsgruppe Passau (Passauer Neue Presse, Am Sonntag) als auch der Wochenblatt Verlag (Passauer Woche) hat darüber nicht berichtet. Diese Unabhängigkeit war mir extrem wichtig da ich ein unabhängiges und objektives Nachrichtenangebot schaffen wollte. Und nach drei Monaten kann ich sagen, dass uns das sehr gut gelungen ist.Bisher finde ich nur TKP-basierende Bannerwerbung auf der Seite. Damit ein ausreichendes Auskommen zu erzielen, dürfte im Lokalen unmöglich sein. In den Mediadaten werden nur zwei Werbeplätze angeboten. Zu recht moderaten Preisen. Wie hast Du vor lokalnews zu finanzieren?
Mit der Vermarktung der Plattform haben wir Anfang Mai begonnen. Seit rund einer Woche werden wir überregional von der OMS (www.oms.eu) vermarktet. Die aktive regionale Vermarktung läuft dann in den nächsten Wochen an. Wir werden hier die Werbeflächen noch einmal neu ausrichten, da der Wallpaper, Skyscraper und Rectangle in Zukunft nur überregional vermarktet wird.
Ich bin jedoch überzeugt, dass man eine lokales Nachrichtenangebot im Jahr 2011 noch nicht komplett finanzieren kann. Das war auch ein Punkt wieso eine Anschubfinanzierung unablässig war. Aber hyperlokale Angebote werden in den nächsten Monaten immer mehr im Mainstream ankommen, die Nutzungszahlen werden steigen und somit auch die Umsätze.Wie siehst Du die Chancen neue Erlösmodelle zu finden. Bei der Tegernseer Stimme wird im Juni beispielsweise ein Internet-Workshop für Händler und Gastronomen angeboten. Einige Lokalblogs versuchen sich zur Zeit im klassischen Printbusiness oder verdienen Ihr Geld mit Beratungsleistungen. Testet Ihr bewusst neue Erlösquellen?
Wir sind aktuell in den Planungen für einen regionalen Anzeigenmarkt. Weiterhin planen wir für Anfang/Mitte Juni eine Printausgabe, jedoch nur zum Werbungszweck. Geld werden wir damit keines verdienen. Wir wollen nur unser Angebot bekannter machen.Mir drängte sich bei dem doch sehr professionellen Auftritt von lokalnews.de von Start weg der Eindruck auf, dass der ganze Aufwand nicht nur für eine Webseite betrieben wurde. Gibt es für lokalnews Expansionspläne?
Ich bin selbst Programmierer, daher wurde der Auftritt, die Schnittstellen und auch die Social Angebote komplett eigenständig umgesetzt. Im System ist die Möglichkeit einer Expansion bereits integriert, wir müssen nur einen Schalter umlegen und schon kann das System weitere Regionen bedienen. Wann und wie das jedoch der Fall ist, werden die nächsten Monate zeigen. Wir wollen erstmal für Passau eine ordentliche Leistung abliefern und dann unsere Reichweite schrittweise erhöhen.Das Thema Lokalblogs bekommt auch in Deutschland langsam aber sicher die Aufmerksamkeit, die es verdient. Bei lokalnews ist jetzt auch der erste Verlag als Investor mit aufgesprungen. Was denkst Du wohin die Reise geht? Werden Lokalblogs die neue Tageszeitung?
Das werden Sie nur, wenn Sie wirklich ein ernstzunehmendes und umfassendes Angebot schaffen. Viele Lokalblogs machen sehr guten Journalismus aber werden aktuell nur als Ergänzung zu den bestehenden lokalen Nachrichtenangeboten gesehen. Als Leser will ich nicht nur guten, kritischen Journalismus sondern auch beispielweise über Veranstaltungen, Polizeimeldungen und Verkehrswarnungen informiert werden. Und das tagesaktuell. In diese Richtung wird sich noch viel tun, auch bei den Verlagen bin ich gespannt wer sich noch auf solche “Experimente” einlässt. Ich hätte selber als ich mich auf der Suche nach einem Investor gemacht habe nie gedacht, dass ein Verlag sich auf dieses “Abenteuer” einlässt.
Lokalblog, lokale Onlineangebote, hyperlokale Nachrichtenseiten – egal welche Bezeichnung sich für das Thema in Zukunft durchsetzen wird. Ein Thema für Verleger wird es auf jeden Fall werden. Bei der Vermarktung und im Vertrieb sind die Schnittmengen offensichtlich. Und wenn Verlage clever sind, werden sie auch verstehen, dass ein “Reinpfuschen” in die journalistische Unabhängigkeit und die Art und Weise der Berichterstattung an der Stelle nichts bringt. Damit zerstört man den Grundpfeiler des Geschäftsmodells.
Als Investment, wie das bei lokalnews allem Anschein nach der Fall zu sein scheint, werden es aber bestimmt noch einige andere erkennen. Media Markt und Saturn gehören auch beide zu Metro. Und mit redcoon gibt’s das Ganze online nochmal in grün.
Biete den Lesern was sie wollen – wo sie es wollen. Wenn investigativer Lokaljournalismus zum Geschäftsmodell gehört – um so besser.

Das Angebot ist und bleibt ein U-Boot. Wie unabhängig macht denn das Geld, mit dem die Angestellten bezahlt werden?

Sorry, dass ist entweder total naiv oder verlogen – beide Varianten sind nicht eben schmeichelhaft.
Interessant sind die Kommentare zum Bericht und dem darin zum Ausdruck gebrachten journalistischen “Anspruch”.

Nicht zutreffend ist die Aussage, dass die Vermarktung erst jetzt begonnen habe – die startete schon vor dem Launch von lokalnews.de – mittels Gutscheinangeboten.
Interessant ist auch die Printausgabe. Wer gibt dafür wohl das Geld, wer druckt das wohl und wer soll wohl unter Druck gesetzt werden? Ein Schelm, wer Böses dabei “Denk”t.
Ich bin mir sicher, dass wir zum Abenteuer des Herrn Wildfeuer und seiner groß beschworenen “Unabhängigkeit” sicher nicht die letzte Geschichte gelesen haben.

bei all der Diskussion um journalistische Unabhängigkeit vergisst man schnell die wirtschaftliche Ausrichtung, die jedes journalistische Angebot haben muss. Einfach um dauerhaft zu überleben.
Wie muss Unabhängigkeit aussehen? Darf man dann überhaupt Investoren haben? Wenn ja welche? Darf Madsack einen Blog in Passau finanzieren? Oder muss Journalismus eher einen “künstlerischen Anspruch” haben? So, wie es der Slogan von regensburg-digital vermuten lässt: Unabhängig, mutig, unterfinanziert? Die Unterfinanzierung als Lebenseinstellung?
Ich denke bei dem Thema kommt man mit Schwarz/Weiß, Gut/Böse, Verlag/Gegner nicht weiter.
Es gibt ganz sicher Nachteile, die durch die Zusammenarbeit mit Investoren (in diesem Fall Verlagen) entstehen. Es hat aber auch Vorteile, wie zum Beispiel die finanziellen Mittel für eine technische Weiterentwicklung und ein hohes Tempo. Und in dem Punkt ist lokalnews wirklich gut mit den Community-Möglichkeiten usw.. Journalistisch sind andere sicher besser.
Ob das hilft die journalistische Monopolsituation in Passau aufzulösen, ist wieder ein ganz anderes Thema. Unter dem Aspekt der reinen Betrachtung von lokalnews.de als “Geschäftsmodell Lokalblog”, hat das für mich in dem Artikel aber eine untergeordnete Rolle gespielt.

einverstanden auf den ersten Blick – auf den zweiten aber nicht.
Es ist sehr wohl entscheidend, wer der Investor ist – wer zahlt, bestimmt.
Und es kommt darauf an, welche Ziele verfolgt werden. Unterhaltungsangebote sind anders zu bewerten als politische Angebote.
Und Investments sind unter dem Ziel zu betrachten, das sie verfolgen.
Ich sehe bei lokalnews.de überhaupt keinen journalistischen Anspruch, wohl aber einen wettbewerblichen.
Auch ich habe übrigens mit Verlagen gesprochen, bin aber schnell davon abgekommen, dies weiter zu verfolgen, weil die sogenannten “Unternehmenskulturen” nicht zusammenpassen.
Die allermeisten Verlage begreifen das Internet immer noch als Bedrohung – eine vertrauensvolle Zusammenarbeit kann es da nur schwer geben.
Initiativen der Verlage im Internet sind allesamt gescheitert – wieso sollte man sich genau einen solchen Partner suchen?
Die Denke in vielen Verlagshäuser ist leider nicht sehr innovativ und dementsprechend kann ich mir keine journalistisch interessanten Projekte vorstellen.
Beispiel Privatradiomarkt: Es gibt tausende von Dudelfunksendern. Kein einziger hat eine ernstzunehmende journalistische Redaktion. Aber alle Privatradios werden über ein Geflecht von gegenseitigen Beteiligungen der Verlagshäuser als Werbemelkmaschinen betrieben.
Diesen “Anspruch” befürchte ich auch für das Internet. Die, die für sich “Qualität” proklamieren, sind die ersten, die sie vernichten.
Bis auf wenige Angebote können verlagseigene Internetauftritte nicht überzeugen – die meisten sind “Ab-Klatsch”-Veranstaltungen der alltäglichen Bratwurstberichterstattungen.
Und ganz ehrlich? Ich würde nicht von jedem Geld nehmen, nur um mich zu finanzieren. Dann schnall ich lieber den Gürtel enger. Und arbeite dran, dass ich trotz dieser Einstellung gut davon leben kann.
Vielleicht klappt’s, vielleicht nicht. Aber ich habe es wenigstens versucht.

ich bin bei den ersten zwei Punkten absolut Deiner Meinung: Je nach Investor wird die Einflussnahme eine andere sein. Einfluss werden aber die meisten Investoren irgendwann nehmen wollen. Bei politischen Angeboten ist das natürlich kritischer als bei reinen Unterhaltungsangeboten.

Ich hoffe einfach, dass sich immer mehr Verlage Ihr fehlendes Know-How in dem Bereich eingestehen und Investments in onlinejournalistische Angebote vornehmen – ohne dabei Einfluß auf die Inhalte und deren Aufbereitung zu nehmen. Weil sie es nicht können und nicht verstehen.
Das ist auch die Hoffnung, die ich bei lokalnews habe: Dass der Wochenblatt Verlag das als reines Investment sieht, so zwar einen Fuß in die Onlinewelt bekommt, aber eingesehen hat, dass er selbst weder mit seiner Denkweise, noch mit seinen Know How zum Erfolg beitragen kann. Wenn er es selbst angehen würde, würde das Projekt zu 100% scheitern. Da gebe ich Dir Recht. Wenn er zum Schluss aber lediglich seine Druckmaschinen und seinen Anzeigenvertrieb aufschaltet, spricht da aus meiner Sicht nichts dagegen.
Mit den Privatradios hast Du natürlich auf der einen Seite Recht. Auf der anderen muss ich jetzt aber leider die große Keule rausholen: die GEZ. Als Privatradio ist es ziemlich aussichtslos sich auf journalistischem Niveau in irgendeiner Art und Weise mit den WDR’s dieser Republik zu messen. Das ist finanziell schlicht für niemanden zu stemmen. Das Spiel ist staatsverschuldet entschieden.
Dass Du persönlich den Gürtel enger schnallen würdest, um saubere Arbeit abzuliefern, ehrt Dich. Und bei Dir bin ich mir da auch sicher. Heddesheim ist also aus der Sache raus. Allerdings würde ich mich darauf flächendeckend nicht verlassen wollen.
Wer hungert kann keinen Krieg gewinnen.

ich sehe mich im Wettbewerb, nicht im Krieg.
Das WDR-Argument zieht nicht – mindestens ein kleine Redaktion müsste pro Sender drin sein. Aber wie gesagt, da wird nur die Seife hot rotiert – wenn es auch ohne Ausgaben geht, nehmen sie halt nur die Einnahmen.
Im Privatfernsehen geht’s auch übel zu und dass man ohne GEZ tolles Fernsehen machen kann, beweist die BBC seit Jahrzehnten. Es kommt nur auf die Haltung an.
Deswegen gibt es auch mehr McDonalds als gute Restaurants. Ganz einfach.
Und 100 Prozent lokal ist schon heute 100 Prozent gescheitert – ich wette mit Dir um ne Bratwurst.

Einen habe ich aber noch: Die BBC ist ein öffentlich rechtlicher Sender, der durch Zwangsgebühren ein Jahresbudget von rund 4 Mrd. Euro hat. Wird zwar anders berechnet, wie die GEZ bei uns, ist aber faktisch ziemlich genau das Gleiche.
