Die Prenzlauer Berg Nachrichten ist eines der journalistischen StartUps, das seine Arbeit sehr ordentlich macht. Gründer Philipp Schwörbel feiert das einjährige Bestehen des Prnzlberger Lokalblogs mit einer gedruckten Sonderausgabe in 60.000er Auflage und einer schönen Nachricht gegenüber dem Netzleser: “der Monat November wird sich – wie es aussieht – finanziell tragen“. Exakte zahlen hat Philipp Schwörbel leider nicht genannt und es ist immer schwer aufgrund von Annahmen Prognosen aufzustellen.
Gegenüber dem Journalist hat Philipp Schwörbel allerdings im Oktober einige Einblicke gegeben, aus denen sich ein mittlerer 4-stelliger Monatsumsatz schließen lässt:
Ich sage jetzt nichts zu unseren Honoraren, aber wir reden nicht nur von 50 oder 100 Euro. Wer jeden Tag für mich arbeitet, könnte seinen Lebensunterhalt davon bestreiten.

Zwar betont Schwörbel auch, dass er selbst mit dem StartUp noch nichts verdient aber nach 11 Monaten ist zumindest zu sehen, dass die eingeschlagene Richtung stimmt.

Auch die Prenzlauer Berg Nachrichten versuchen von Restplatzvermarktnern wegzukommen. Auf der Startseite laufen zwar noch einige Plätze, die aber immer mehr lokalen Anzeigen weichen. Spannend ist, dass man bei den Prenzlauerberg-Nachrichten, ähnlich wie bei der Tegernseer Stimme, auf langfristige Partner setzt. Wir stellen unsere Arbeit damit einer noch größeren Leserschaft vor. Die Zeitung erzeugt zusätzliche Reichweite und stärkt die Marke “Prenzlauer Berg Nachrichten”. Die Printausgabe stellt keinen besseren, sondern einen weiteren Zugang zu Werbekunden dar.
Gedruckt wird die Printausgabe übrigens auf den gleichen Rollen, wie die Berliner Zeitung. Na also: Online meets Print.

Gerade in Onlinebereich tummeln sich allerlei Großmäuler, Märchenerzähler und Lügenbolde. Da wäre es sicher angebracht, Verlautbarungen von wem auch immer nicht einfach ungeprüft ins Netz stellen, sondern sich einer alten journalistischen Tugend namens “Recherche” zu erinnern. Sonst steht man unter Umständen hinterher selbst als Depp da. Muss ja nicht sein.
Also: Der Herr Schwörbel und seine “Prenzlauer Berg Nachrichten”…
In dem von Ihnen zitierten Gespräch mit der Zeitschrift “Journalist” erklärte Herr Schwörbel: “Wir haben laut Google Analytics derzeit rund 14.000 regelmäßige Leser im Monat.”
Das sind nun schon mal zwei Unwahrheiten in einem Satz.
Denn erstens zählt Google Analytics nicht einen Monat lang am Stück, sondern die Zählung der Zugriffe beginnt alle 24 Stunden neu. Und damit werden alle, die gestern die Seite schon besucht haben, beim heutigen Wiederbesuch erneut als “Unique Visitors” registriert.
Und zweitens zählt Google Analytics mitnichten Besucher aus Fleisch und Blut, sondern Geräte, auf denen das Programm ein Cookie platziert.
Daraus folgt, dass Schwörbels behaupteten 14.000 “Unique Visitors” durch 30 bzw. 31 (Monatstage) geteilt werden müssen, um den täglichen Durchschnitt an “Unique Visitors” zu ermitteln. Das wären rund 460 am Tag. Aber auch diese 460 “Unique Visitors” sind noch immer keine realen Leser.
Denn schaut man sich das – bei allen nachrichtlichen Online-Publikationen ähnliche – Zugriffsverhalten der User an, stellt man drei Nutzungsspitzen fest: Eine am Morgen so ab 8 Uhr, eine zweite gegen die Mittagszeit, und dann ab 17 Uhr herum eine dritte. Darüber hinaus ist eine (stark zunehmende) Anzahl von mobilen Geräten (Smartphones, Tablets etc) zu erkennen, die gerade den Tag über die Seiten öfter aufrufen.
Dies korrespondiert mit Verhaltensweisen, die fast jeder von sich selbst kennt: Des Morgens holt man sich am Bürocomputer einen ersten Nachrichtenüberblick; unterwegs mal kurz ein Blick via Smartphone in die Nachrichtenwelt geworfen – und des Abends schaut man am heimischen PC noch mal nach, was am Tag so passiert ist.
Das sind schon mal drei Geräte für nur eine Person – jedes für sich wird von Google Analytics aber als eigenständiger “Unique Visitors” gezählt.
Hinzu kommen dann noch all diejenigen User, deren Browser vernünftigerweise so eingestellt ist, dass er die Cookie beim Neustart löscht – auch die werden dann als neue “Besucher” registriert.
Nun hat nicht jeder ein Smartphone – und auch mit dem Datenschutzbewusstsein (Cookies löschen!) hapert es zuweilen noch… – nehmen wir also zu Gunsten von Herrn Schwörbel an, dass durchschnittlich nur zwei Endgeräte (ohne Cookielöschung) auf jeden Leser kommen. Bleiben von der beeindruckenden Zahl „14.000“ ganze 230 reale Besucher am Tag übrig.
Herr Schwörbel rührt seit dem Auftauchen seines Blogs mächtig die überregionale Werbetrommel. Logisch, dass da der eine oder andere aus Hamburg oder Bayern bei ihm vorbeischaut. Sollte er im Durchschnitt pro Bundesland (außer Berlin) auch nur jeweils zehn Leser haben, dann blieben ganze 80 für den Berliner Raum übrig. Berlin hat aber zwölf Bezirke. Und wenn es in jedem der anderem Bezirke außerhalb Pankows (jenes Bezirkes also, in dem der Stadtteil Prenzlauer Berg liegt) auch nur jeweils fünf Leser gäbe – und es sieht ganz danach aus – dann blieben knapp dreißig tägliche Blogbesucher aus dem Großbezirk Pankow übrig. Prenzlauer Berg ist aber nur ein Ortsteil von Pankow.
Herr Schwörbel aquiriert seine Anzeigen aber bei Prenzlauer Berger Firmen.
Wer als Gewerbetreibender bei einer derartig geringen Anzahl an lokalen Lesern mehr oder weniger viel Geld für eine Anzeige ausgibt, hat entweder – erstens – rein betriebswirtschaftlich betrachtet ein mächtiges Ding an der Waffel; er will sich – zweitens – als großzügiger Mäzen zeigen, dem es auf ein paar hundert Euro nicht ankommt, oder aber er wurde – drittens – von Herrn Schwörbel betreffs der tatsächlichen Besucherzahlen auf seinem Blog übel hinters Licht geführt.
Schwörbels dreiste Behauptung, sein Blog würde im Monat „bis zu 18.000 Leser erreichen“, weist da allerdings in eine ganz bestimmte Richtung. Und so hoffe ich, dass eine von mir gerade in die Wege geleitete Umfrage bei Schwörbels Anzeigenkunden Aufklärung bringt.
Zu seinen Einnahmen und Ausgeben wäre auch noch einiges zu sagen, ebenso die journalistische Qualität seines Webauftritts und seines Rufes, den er sich hier vor Ort mittlerweile „erarbeitet“ hat…
Ich will es dennoch dabei belassen, verbunden mit der Bitte, künftig erst einmal richtig hinzuschauen – und dann zu veröffentlichen.
Denn wie anfangs schon erwähnt: Gerade in Onlinebereich tummeln sich allerlei Großmäuler, Märchenerzähler und Lügenbolde.

interessante Rechnung. Leider ist die Grundannahme und damit die Rechnung falsch. Die uniquen User pro Monat sind tatsächlich auch unique User pro Monat. Oder wie google selber sagt: “Unique Visitors represents the number of unduplicated (counted only once) visitors to your website over the course of a specified time period.”
Aus dem Grund darf man die uniquen User pro Tag auch nicht mit 30 multiplizieren um auf eine Monatszahl zu kommen. Wenn Sie sich ihr Analytics-Konto anschauen werden Sie sehen, dass diese beiden Zahlen signifikant voneinander abweichen.
Muss natürlich heißen: “Gerade iM Onlinebereich…”

Ein Frage stelle ich mir dann aber doch: Warum stehen Sie in Ihrer Rechnung der Prenzlauer Berg Nachrichten noch 30 Prenzlauer Leser zu? Noch ein weiterer kreativer Schritt und Sie wären problemlos auf 0 gekommen…
Ich möchte auch nicht weiter auf Ihr Wissen zu Google Analytics eingehen. Ich will nur klarstellen, dass hier durchaus recherchiert wird. Und das bei der Recherche schnell auffällt, dass Sie Herr Kampmann, keine Chance ungenutzt lassen, Ihren Konkurrenten und selbstgewählten Erzfeind anzugreifen.
Herr Kampmann, das bringt weder Sie, noch Ihre schön gemachte Prenzlauer Stimme voran. Nutzen Sie die Zeit lieber anderweitig!

Die Prenzlberger Stimme (und nicht etwa “Prenzlauer” – und auch die Leser sind keine Prenzlauer, denn sie kommen aus Berlin und nicht aus der Uckermark – aber das haben Sie ja sicherlich auch recherchiert…) ist nichtkommerziell und werbefrei – sie steht also in keinerlei wirtschaftlicher Konkurrenz zum Blog – Pardon: zur “Zeitung”- von Herrn Schwörbel.
Und obwohl ich so wie er bloß ‘ne Website in die Welt gesetzt habe, käme ich nie auf den verwegenen Gedanken, mich gleichfalls nun “Verleger” zu ernennen. Auch da ist er ohne Konkurrenz.
In anderen Dingen konkurriere ich ebenfalls nicht mit ihm: So käme ich nie auf die Idee, die Kommentarfunktion auf meiner Seite wegzulassen, weil möglicherweise die das Werbeumfeld störenden kritischen Kommentare – oder schlimmer noch! – pfuiteuflische Verweise auf eine benachbarte Seite überhand nehmen. Auch eine vorsätzlich eingestellte Falschnachricht werden Sie bei mir nicht finden – selbst da ist Philipp Albert konkurrenzlos.
Und, bitte: Zum “Erzfeind” fehlt ihm nun wirklich die Statur. Da reicht es nicht mal zum Erzkomiker, denn seine Komik ist von unfreiwilliger Natur…
Ich hatte Herrn Schwörbel schon vor einiger Zeit gewarnt: Besinnt er sich nicht auf ein seriöseres Handeln, ist’s vorbei mit den Neckereien und er wird zum Berichtsgegenstand. Der Punkt ist nun erreicht.
Zum Schluss: Leider haben Sie meine Rechnung nicht entkrudet. Wer weiß, vielleicht liegt sie tatsächlich daneben, und ich könnte angesichts meiner – wie ich finde: bescheidenen – täglich knapp 1.500 und also monatlich rund 44.000 “Unique Visitors” bei Google Analytics mich stolz in Brust werfen und wie weiland Herr Schwörbel in die Welt posaunen: “Fümmmmfßichtausend! Mit meiner Seite erreiche ich bis zu fümmmmfßichtausend Leser “- Das wäre gut ein Drittel aller Einwohner von Prenzlauer Berg – vom Baby bis zum Greis.
Nee, wohl eher nicht.

Und wieder was gelernt…
Und also die Probe aufs Exempel gemacht: Ja, es differiert. Allerdings sieht Signifikanz nach meiner Begrifflichkeit doch etwas anders aus.
Die Zahlen: Vom 8. November bis zum 8. Dezember weist GA bei mir insgesamt 40.067 Unique Visitors aus – beim Zusammenzählen der einzelnen Tage werden es dann 43.189. Das ist – je nach dem, von welcher Seite aus man es betrachtet – eine Differenz von etwas mehr oder etwas weniger als 10 Prozent.
Und weil ich ja ein netter Mensch bin, gestehe ich Herrn Schwörbel nun also eine Abweichung von sogar 100 Prozent zu – das wären dann 60 Besucher pro Tag aus dem “Zielgebiet”…
Die Zahlen der korrekten, wie die der nicht korrekten Erfassung der sogenannten Unique Visitors sind nicht identisch, sie liegen aber nicht sehr weit von einander entfernt. Sie spielen daher für die grundsätzliche Bewertung der Reichweite von Herrn Schwörbels Blog kaum eine Rolle.
Im Übrigen halte ich es für herzlich unrealistisch, dass ich mit meinem Portal im Monat über 40.000 real existierende Leser (davon knapp 36.000 aus Berlin) erreiche und denke, dass diese Zahlen eher durch andere Umstände (Cookie-Löschung, Mehr-Geräte-Nutzung durch nur einen User etc.) zustandekommen. Und weil dies ja nun nicht ein Umstand ist, der mich exklusiv betrifft, erscheinen die von Herrn Schwörbel öffentlich gemachten Zahlen nicht weniger fragwüdig – zumal er über die Anzahl seiner Leser in Berlin (genauer lässt sich das ja eh nicht eingrenzen), die entscheidend für seine Anzeigenkunden sind, nun so gar nichts verlauten lässt…
