Axel Springer hat letzte Woche wieder einmal Zahlen zur Premium Content Initiative verkündet:
Gut eineinhalb Jahre nach dem Start der Initiative zur Etablierung kostenpflichtiger Inhalte im mobilen und stationären Internet zieht Axel Springer eine weitere positive Zwischenbilanz. Journalistische Medienmarken wie BILD und DIE WELT werden vor allem auf neuen mobilen Endgeräten wie Smartphones und Tablet-PCs intensiv genutzt; sie verkaufen über alle Plattformen hinweg jeden Tag mehr als 108.000 digitale Ausgaben (BILD) bzw. knapp 17.000 digitale Ausgaben (DIE WELT).
Springers "Tagesverkäufe" sind lediglich anders gerechnete Abonnenten: "Summe aus iPad, iPhone, ePaper, Android, Online-Abonnements (ohne freigeschaltete Print-Abonnenten)" (Quelle: Axel Springer)
Die Meldung hat sehr große Ähnlichkeit zur ersten Jubelpressemeldung vor eineinhalb Jahren:
Wir können bis heute eine höchst erfreuliche Zwischenbilanz ziehen. Die Resonanz auf den Start der neuen Mobilangebote von BILD und WELT für das iPhone hat unsere Erwartungen mit mehr als 100.000 App-Downloads bei weitem übertroffen. Nun ist es unser Ansporn, möglichst viele Nutzer dauerhaft von unseren attraktiven Angeboten zu angemessenen Preisen zu überzeugen.
War zum Zeitpunkt der ersten Pressemeldung ausschließlich die iPhone App verfügbar, sind in der Zwischenzeit Android-Smartphones und Apples iPad dazugekommen. Außerdem spricht Springer in der aktuellen Medlung nicht mehr von App-Verkäufen, sondern von der
Summe aus iPad, iPhone, ePaper, Android, Online-Abonnements (ohne freigeschaltete Print-Abonnenten)
Die generelle Nutzung mobiler Endgeräte hat im gleichen Zeitraum stark zugenommen. Sowohl Bild, wie auch Welt pushen die Apps weiterhin mit kostenlosen Testversionen. So gesehen und unter Berücksichtigung der großzügigen Rechnungsart (was alles zu den “digitalen Ausgaben” gezählt wird) sind die aktuell veröffentlichten Zahlen und das Wachstum in 18 Monaten eher ernüchternd, bis enttäuschend.
Wachstum bleibt hinter Marktentwicklung zurück
Objektiv betrachtet steigt die Nachfrage nach kostenpflichtigen Springer-Apps noch nicht einmal proportional zur gestiegenen Verbreitung und Nutzung der verfügbaren Endgeräte. Auch zu Umsatzzahlen und wirklichen Verkäufen schweigt man sich bei Springer weiter aus; auch wenn in manchen Berichten Springers erfolgreiche Digitalsparte mit erfolgreichen Premium-Apps gleichgesetzt wird. Aber das stimmt leider einfach nicht.
