Das dabei die Rolle der Journalisten als Gatekeeper nicht verloren gehen braucht, aber neu definiert werden muss, findet auch Ruth Blaes in einem ihrer Aufsätze: „Journalisten als bloße Bediener und Erfüllungshilfen einer Maschinerie, die sich selbst ölt, werden ihren Auftrag verfehlen. Grundlagen und Hintergrund auf bestimmten Wissensgebieten werden mehr denn je notwendig sein. Es braucht Kundige, die Informationen, Wissenswertes aufbereiten können und fähig sind, sie sinnvoll und authentisch zusammenzustellen.“
Der unendlichen Fülle an Informationen Herr zu werden ist schlichtweg nicht möglich. Sich darin zurechtzufinden, Informationen relevant und interessant zu reduzieren ist aber die große Chance für Journalisten der Zukunft.
